• Hola! My name is Joy Kelley

    I've been a full-time lettering artist since 2013.

I am obsessed with pens, letters and I also have a thing for lemon pie.

After a few years of selling physical products in this shop and retailers all over the country, I decided to venture into the digital realm and offer fonts, cut files and other resources for creatives.

The Studio started at the end of 2017 with my very first font and has since then grown to host more than 1000+ products.

I love creating products that will help you embellish or make your life easier. If you would like to learn a bit more about me on a personal level, just hop on the blog!

Who are we?

The HowJoyful Shop is a part of HowJoyful LLC, created and ran by lettering artist Joy Kelley.

While most of the content is personally created by me (Joy Kelley) I do have help in several parts of my business and this is why many times I refer to HowJoyful as “we” =]

My blog, started in 2010 and my freelance lettering business started in 2013. Since then, I've been working on teaching, developing products and working with many businesses in freelance projects as well as licensing.

One of the aspects I enjoy the most is teaching. I've been sharing projects in my blog since its inception, but I have a special place in my heart for in-person workshops because I love the interaction with students.

How it all started

The Studio

The HowJoyful Studio was founded in 2010 along with my blog howjoyful.com. At the beginning, I started offering only design services, such as branding and website design.

Through the years, the studio has changed the offerings as a moved from client work to product design, eventually opening a Storefront in our small town.

Unfortunately, after struggling to handle 3 boys under 4 years old and keeping the shop going all the time. I made the hard call to close the storefront, focus on our online offering again and move the studio back to our house.

In 2020, I posted a little tour of what my office and small studio looked like at our old house, you can check it below.

2020 STUDIO TOUR

The beginning

The Shop

In January 2013, I decided to not only draw for my website and branding clients but also for fun. For the great love I have towards pen and paper, and most importantly, to express my ideas, hopes, and dreams. And shade them with the ones that are passionate about letters, just like me.

So in February 2013, I opened my shop on Etsy and a year later, in 2014, I opened the virtual doors to my domain (this shop).

CURRENTLY

The Studio Now

After living in an RV for about a year, we found the land of our dreams, and I was able to transform one of our garages into the new Studio.

This time, my focus is on content creation and design, so I set up my studio with that as the central focus instead of a warehouse and shipping facility.

And while I still designated a small area for this, I am excited to share how this new space will work.

The HowJoyful Vision

I want my artwork to inspire, empower and encourage people.

I love to mix hand-lettering, illustrations, botanicals and some of my favorite lettering styles to create inspiring artwork for you to frame, play, gift, or wear. With attention to detail and much love, from my home studio directly to YOU.

Along with making my line of physical products here and my digital goods on the HowJoyful Studio, I also sell in different marketplaces and POD (print on demand) sites.
